Taken together, these findings lead us to conclude that the increase in muscle carnitine content observed in the present study inhibited glycolytic flux (decrease in lactate) and carbohydrate oxidation at the level of the PDC, thereby diverting muscle glucose uptake toward glycogen storage (nonoxidative glucose disposal). The reciprocal relationship between carbohydrate and fat oxidation in skeletal muscle would suggest that the apparent decrease in carbohydrate flux observed was the result of, or resulted in, an increase in fat oxidation
